Roland Melton, Jr., passed away October 10, 2020, at the age of 93 years. He was a long-time resident of Bloomfield, NM, but had resided in Shawnee, OK, for the past four years to be near his family.

Roland was born on December 15, 1927, to Roland Melton, Sr., and Calanthe Davis Melton. He spent his younger years in Durant, OK, where he graduated high school and then went on to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Roland married the love of his life, Lucille Moss, on December 26, 1950. They enjoyed 57 wonderful years together before Lucille's death on December 14, 2007. Roland worked for El Paso Natural Gas for many years and retired in 1984. He and Lucille then moved to Bloomfield, NM, where they would spend the majority of their retirement years.

During WWII, Roland served in the US Navy between July 6, 1945, and October 28, 1946. His service to his country was acknowledged by him receiving the WWII Victory Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon.

Roland was also a long-time member of the Freemasons. During his tenure, he served at San Juan Lodge as Master, Chaplain, and Senior Deacon. He also served at Four Corners Daylight Lodge as Master and Chaplain.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, JoAnn Duncan of Kingfisher, and sister-in-law, Berdina Glenn and her husband, Alvin of Oklahoma City, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, October 14th, at 2:00 PM at Sanders Funeral Services Chapel 124 E. Broadway, Kingfisher, OK and internment will follow at Kingfisher Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife.
