Ray Vern McIntyre was born January 30, 1923 in Tryon, Oklahoma to Eugene Douglas McIntyre and Lula (Hall) McIntyre.
He graduated from Tryon High School in the spring of 1940 and then began studies at Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma, (Now UCO). He joined the Oklahoma National Guard in 1940 to earn extra money, only to find the guard was called up to serve because of the onset of World War II. He served in the 45th infantry Division, Headquarter Company, 179th infantry. He was with the 45th when it landed in North Africa and took part in the amphibious landings in Sicily, Salerno, Anzio and Southern France. His unit ended up in Southern Germany and he helped liberate Munich. He was awarded the Bronze Star on April 20, 1944. He was discharged in July of 1945 and returned home to Tryon, where on August 12, 1945 he married his childhood sweetheart Vera Kathryn Jones. Ray then returned to Central State University and he graduated in the spring of 1947. He then attended the University of Oklahoma Medical School, where he graduated in 1951. He did his internship at the old Mercy Hospital in what is now downtown Oklahoma City.
He moved with his family to Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1952 where he set up his medical practice. He served as a Doctor there until the beginning of 1992; he served as President of the Kingfisher Hospital board. Dr. McIntyre was elected President of the Oklahoma State Medical Association and served from 1988 - 1989. His brother, Dr. John A. McIntyre of Enid, had earlier served as President of the Oklahoma State Medical Association. Dr. McIntyre also served as President of the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians and edited the Oklahoma State Medical Association magazine from May 1989 to May 1999. One of his proudest accomplishments was his support of early child abuse laws.
He joined the Federated Church when he moved to Kingfisher in 1952 and has been President of the Church board. He remained a member of that church till his death.
His interests were not limited to medicine, however. He loved photography, wildflowers, playing bridge, and doing crossword puzzles. He became adept in cutting and polishing rocks, especially semi-precious stones and made necklaces and earrings for his wife, daughter and niece.
His wife of 75 years, Kathryn, preceded him in death in August of 2020.
He is survived by his children: Glen McIntyre, of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, Dale McIntyre and wife Laura and Dale's daughter Katy of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his son, Dr. Floyd McIntyre and wife Carolyn of West Harwich, Massachusetts and his daughter, Ann McIntyre of Sonoma, California. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Dr. Joyce McIntyre and Joyce's husband, Frank Santasuosso of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts and their son, Francis William Santasuosso; A grandson, Floyd McIntyre Jr. of Centreville, Massachusetts and his wife, Valerie have two children, Floyd McIntyre III and Josephine.

Services will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Federated Church of Kingfisher with interment to follow at Kingfisher Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
