George Robert Cerny passed away at his home in Kingfisher on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the age of 88. George was born to Ernest and Fay (Hartzell) Cerny on January 24, 1933, southeast of Kingfisher.
He attended Kingfisher High School and finished his senior year serving with the Oklahoma National Guard 45th Division. He served in Korea as Motor Sgt in charge of the motor pool from 1951-1952.
George married Laura June Terrell on January 17, 1951 in Kingfisher. They proudly celebrated 70 years of marriage this year!
They started their life in Oklahoma City where George worked as an electrician and mechanic. Three children were born to them; LaRita, Dennis, and Elizabeth while living there. The family move to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1959 where George and Laura June started their own business, A&A Carpet Service. But a move back home to the farm to raise their children was always a dream for them. After 50 years on the farm, they retired and moved to town!
When free time was had, George loved a game of golf. He enjoyed mowing the fairways on the course for many years. He cooked many a steak for the organizations he served and loved to host an annual calf fry.
George was an active member of the Kingfisher County Cattlemen Association, The Kingfisher American Legion, Kingfisher Elks Lodge, and the Kingfisher Golf Association.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Fay Cerny, brothers Larry Cerny and Marvin Cerny, and sister Evelyn Workman.
He is survived by his wife, Laura June, his children, LaRita Sipe and husband Dennis, Dennis Cerny and wife Kyle, Elizabeth Cox and husband Phillip, 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, a sister Blanche Cluck and husband Jimmy, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 26, at the Banner Cemetery at 10:00am.
