Dorothy A. (Smith) Watts was born on June 19, 1926 in Carthage, Missouri and died on December 5, 2021, at that age of 95 in Seminole. Her parents were Paul H. and Ada Victoria (McCray) Smith. Dorothy spent her childhood and school years in Red Oak, Iowa. After she graduated from Red Oak High School she went to work for the local phone company. After a couple of years working in Red Oak her employer transferred her to West Plains to work there. During her stint in West Plains she met a young man who had served during WW2. Dorothy had met Corbett Watts. They married on August 12, 1951 back in Red Oak, Iowa. Her days in West Plains were completed when the phone company transferred them to Pioneer Telephone in Kingfisher. She would live in Kingfisher long after her retirement. Her days in Kingfisher were never dull nor boring. Dorothy kept her faith (United Methodist), her family, her career, her community, and her 'hobbies' in remarkable balance. She loved working on ceramics, embroidery, and my favorite--chocolate chip or snicker doodle cookies. Several things were not compromised or changed in any way for any reason. First you NEVER asked her about her middle name, never. Secondly she never wore red nail polish. Finally, Dorothy loved to rock her children to sleep. When the kids were grown she rocked herself to sleep in her recliner. Thirteen years ago, right after Corbett passed away Dorothy moved to Seminole to be closer to Debbie. Life was fairly good and Dorothy was happy and contented for about the next 10 years and then her health began to falter. For the last several weeks her mantra was 'I'm ready to go home if God wants me, but I sure would like to stay a little longer.' During these last weeks her will and determination to make that happen inspired so many support workers, family and friends. After a difficult weekend God kept His promise to His child and our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, neighbor, and friend.God called her home on December 5, 2021. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Corbett Watts Jr.; Parents, Paul & Ada Smith; Sister, June Watts; Mother and Father-in-law, Margaret & Corbett Watts, Sr.; Brother-in-law, William Watts; Granddaughter, Julie Yvonne Staton.
She is survived by her children, Susan and her husband Tom Branch, Tina Watts and Debra and her husband Randal Hallum; Grandchildren, Mike & Nancy Staton, Dawn Branch, Tony & Alli Branch, Seth & Cammie Hallum and Rachel & Cansas Pate; Great-grandchildren, Cassie Staton & Brad Staton, Emily & Mason Branch, Brady Pate; Nephew, Kent & Jackie Watts and family; Niece, Sarah Skillen and her family; Sister, Bonnie Armstrong and her entire family.
