Donald Ray
Black
Jul 18, 1933 — Apr 9, 2019
Donald R. Black, age 85, a lifelong resident of Weatherford, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
Don was raised in Seminole, OK and after high school graduation he attended Oklahoma A&M, where he pursued a degree in Psychology. While attending Oklahoma A&M, he took a leave of absence to serve in the U.S. Army, active duty during the Korean War. When he returned home he completed his degree at now Oklahoma State University. Don was proud of his service and loved his country. Late in life he became very active in politics working with the Republican Party. He also loved his Cowboys and proudly wore the orange and black.
On December 21, 1958 Don and Kaye were married. During his marriage to Kaye, they welcomed a baby boy, Vance and then a little girl Donna Kay. Don was a store manager for Montgomery Ward and was heading up the corporate ladder, but the demanding job took him away from his family too much. So in the summer of 1967 he moved his family to Weatherford, OK and opened up a State Farm Insurance agency. He truly enjoyed his job. It gave him the ability to truly help others in some of their worst days.
Don was a Godly Christian man and through his work through the church and specifically the youth group, he touched many lives and guided young people into lives of service to the Lord. There was nothing that he loved more than his Lord. So at this time, his family and friends rejoice in the knowledge that Don is home with his beloved Lord.
Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kaye and their two children: Vance Black, and Donna Kay Arafat and husband Bassam, and sister Peggy Harris. Grandchildren: Robert Black and wife Ginger, Christopher Black and wife Shari, Miranda Robben and husband Jason, Cersten Golden and husband Clint and 5 Great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Rockford and Gladys Black and Granddaughter Amanda Dawn.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16th at the Church of Christ in Weatherford, OK.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to the National MS Society PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163, www.nationalmssociety.org
